Beef Sandwich with Savory Gravy recipe - American medium difficulty dish

Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds beef chuck roast
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 hoagie rolls
  • 1 cup shredded provolone cheese

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 300°F (150°C).
  2. In a large Dutch oven, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Sear the beef chuck roast on all sides until browned.
  3. Remove the beef from the pot and set aside. In the same pot, add sliced onions and garlic, sauté until softened.
  4. Return the beef to the pot. Add beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper.
  5. Cover and braise in the oven for about 3 hours, or until the beef is fork-tender.
  6. Remove the beef from the pot and let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
  7. Meanwhile, strain the cooking liquid and return it to the pot. Simmer until slightly thickened for the gravy.
  8. Slice the hoagie rolls and fill each with sliced beef. Top with provolone cheese.
  9. Place sandwiches under the broiler for 2-3 minutes until the cheese is melted.
  10. Serve hot with the gravy on the side.
