Beer-Brined Brats with Tangy Sauerkraut

Difficulty: MEDIUM

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 25 minutes

Total Time: 35 minutes

Serving Size: Serves 4

Ingredients:

  • 4 bratwurst sausages
  • 1 bottle of beer (12 oz)
  • 2 cups sauerkraut, drained
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp caraway seeds
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Directions:

  1. In a large bowl, combine beer, caraway seeds, mustard seeds, salt, and pepper. Add the bratwurst sausages to the brine and let them marinate for at least 1 hour.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the marinated bratwurst sausages and cook until browned on all sides, about 5 minutes.
  3. Remove the sausages from the skillet and set aside. In the same skillet, add sliced onions and garlic. Cook until the onions are caramelized, about 5 minutes.
  4. Add the drained sauerkraut to the skillet and stir to combine with the onions. Cook for another 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  5. Return the bratwurst sausages to the skillet, nestling them into the sauerkraut mixture. Cover the skillet and simmer for 10 minutes to ensure the sausages are cooked through.
  6. Serve the beer-brined brats with tangy sauerkraut hot, garnished with additional caraway seeds if desired.
