Ingredients:

  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

Directions:

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water and let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt.
  3. Add eggs, butter, and yeast mixture to the dry ingredients.
  4. Knead the dough until smooth and elastic, then cover and let it rise for 1-2 hours.
  5. Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf or buns as desired.
  6. Place the shaped dough into greased pans, cover, and let rise for another hour.
  7. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake the brioche for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Remove from the oven, let it cool slightly, and enjoy warm with your favorite spread.
