These delightful little pastries are filled with a sweet and tart apple mixture spiced with cinnamon, then baked to golden perfection and dusted with sugar.

Cinnamon Sugar Apple Turnovers

For The Turnovers

Ingredients:

  • 1 puff pastry sheet, thawed
  • 2 small apples, peeled and diced
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/8 tsp salt

For The Topping

Ingredients:

  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon

Directions:

  1. Properly thaw puff pastry by letting sit at room temperature for 2 hours, or letting it sit overnight in the refrigerator.
  2. Once ready to make the turnovers, preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
  3. Line baking sheet with parchment paper.
  4. In a medium saucepan, combine apples, sugar, vanilla, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  5. Cook over medium heat for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Cut puff pastry into 4 squares.
  7. Spoon apple mixture evenly among puff pastry squares, in the middle of the squares.
  8. Fold one corner over diagonally, to make a triangle.
  9. Using a fork, press edges together.
  10. Brush each triangle with egg.
  11. Combine cinnamon and sugar and sprinkle over each turnover.
  12. Cut a slit in each turnover for a steam vent.
  13. Bake in preheated oven for 20 minutes.
  14. Let cool for 5 minutes, then enjoy!
