Ingredients:
- 4 slices of bread
- 4 slices of ham
- 8 slices of Gruyère cheese
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 cup milk
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- Salt and pepper to taste
Directions:
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour to make a roux.
- Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth. Cook until the sauce thickens.
- Season the sauce with nutmeg, salt, and pepper.
- Place 4 slices of bread on a baking sheet. Top each with a slice of ham and a slice of Gruyère cheese.
- Spread a spoonful of the sauce over each sandwich.
- Top each sandwich with another slice of bread, ham, and cheese.
- Spread the remaining sauce over the top of the sandwiches.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
