Classic Key Lime Pie

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ cups graham cracker crumbs
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ⅓ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 4 large egg yolks
  • 1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
  • ½ cup fresh key lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon lime zest
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • Lime slices for garnish

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine graham cracker crumbs, granulated sugar, and melted butter. Mix until well combined.
  3. Press the mixture firmly into the bottom and up the sides of a 9-inch pie dish to form the crust.
  4. Bake the crust in the preheated oven for 10 minutes. Remove and let it cool.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg yolks, sweetened condensed milk, key lime juice, and lime zest until smooth.
  6. Pour the filling into the cooled crust and spread evenly.
  7. Bake the pie for an additional 15 minutes. Remove from the oven and let it cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 3 hours.
  8. Before serving, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar until soft peaks form.
  9. Spread the whipped cream over the chilled pie and garnish with lime slices.
