Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds russet potatoes, peeled and quartered
  • 1/2 cup whole milk, warmed
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup sour cream

Directions:

  1. Place the quartered potatoes in a large pot and cover with cold water. Add 1 teaspoon of salt.
  2. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce to a simmer. Cook for 15-20 minutes until the potatoes are tender.
  3. Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Let them sit for 2-3 minutes to allow excess moisture to evaporate.
  4. Add the softened butter, warmed milk, and sour cream to the potatoes. Mash until smooth and creamy, about 2-3 minutes.
  5. Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Serve warm.
