Decadent Chocolate Mousse

Ingredients:

  • 8 oz semisweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 4 eggs, separated
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup heavy cream

Directions:

  1. Melt chocolate and butter in a heatproof bowl over simmering water, stirring until smooth. Let it cool slightly.
  2. In a separate bowl, beat egg yolks with sugar until pale and thick. Stir in vanilla extract.
  3. Slowly pour the chocolate mixture into the egg yolk mixture, stirring constantly.
  4. Whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the whipped cream into the chocolate mixture.
  5. In another bowl, whip the egg whites until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the egg whites into the chocolate mixture.
  6. Divide the mousse into serving glasses and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
  7. Garnish with shaved chocolate or fresh berries before serving.
