Ingredients:

  • 500g ground beef
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp coriander
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 can diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped

Directions:

  1. In a large bowl, mix the ground beef, onion, garlic, breadcrumbs, cumin, coriander, cinnamon, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  2. Shape the mixture into small meatballs.
  3. In a tagine or a deep skillet, heat some olive oil over medium heat.
  4. Brown the meatballs on all sides, then remove them from the pan and set aside.
  5. In the same pan, add the diced tomatoes and beef broth. Stir to combine and bring to a simmer.
  6. Add the meatballs back to the pan and cover. Let it simmer for about 20 minutes or until the meatballs are cooked through.
  7. Sprinkle with fresh parsley and cilantro before serving.
  8. Serve the Egyptian Kofta Tagine hot with your favorite side dishes.
