Ingredients:

  • 4 green tomatoes, sliced
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Directions:

  1. Slice the green tomatoes into 1/4 inch thick slices.
  2. In a bowl, mix the buttermilk with salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
  3. Dredge the tomato slices in flour, then dip them into the buttermilk mixture, and finally coat them with cornmeal.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
  5. Fry the coated tomato slices for 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
  6. Remove from the pan and drain on paper towels.
