Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds russet potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste

Directions:

  1. Place the peeled and cut potatoes in a large pot and cover with cold water. Add a pinch of salt and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Cook for 15-20 minutes until tender.
  2. Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Allow them to sit for a minute to steam off excess moisture.
  3. Add the butter, milk, sour cream, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper to the potatoes.
  4. Mash the potatoes with a potato masher or a ricer until smooth and creamy. Adjust seasoning to taste.
  5. Serve warm, garnished with additional butter or chives if desired.
