Hot chocolate is a comforting and delicious beverage made from heating milk with chocolate, typically in the form of cocoa powder, chocolate syrup, or melted chocolate. Often, sugar is added for sweetness and the drink is topped with marshmallows or whipped cream. There are many variations of hot chocolate, with some including spices like cinnamon or nutmeg, and others using different types of milk like almond or soy.

Ingredients:
- 2/3 cup (138g) granulated sugar
- 6 Tbsp (39g) Dutch process cocoa powder*
- 1 Tbsp cornstarch
- 3 1/2 cups (830ml) whole milk
- 1/2 cup (120ml) heavy cream
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Directions:
- In a medium saucepan whisk together sugar, cocoa powder and cornstarch.
- Pour in milk then whisk until well blended.
- Bring to a light boil over medium heat, stirring frequently.
- Reduce heat to medium-low and let simmer about 10 - 15 seconds stirring constantly. Remove from heat.
- Stir in cream and vanilla. Let cool a bit before serving.
- Serve with whipped cream or marshmallows on top if desired.
