Loukoumades are delicious Greek honey puffs that are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. They are a popular dessert enjoyed during festivals and special occasions.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp instant yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • Oil for frying
  • Honey or syrup for drizzling
  • Chopped nuts or cinnamon for topping

Directions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, sugar, yeast, and warm water. Mix until smooth.
  2. Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel and let the batter rest for about 1 hour until it doubles in size.
  3. Heat oil in a deep pot or fryer to 350°F (180°C).
  4. Using a spoon, scoop small portions of the batter and carefully drop them into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  5. Remove the loukoumades from the oil and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
  6. Drizzle honey or syrup over the loukoumades and sprinkle with chopped nuts or cinnamon before serving.
