Chocotejas are traditional Peruvian sweets made with a rich pecan filling coated in decadent chocolate. These treats are perfect for special occasions or as a sweet indulgence.

Peruvian Chocotejas

Serving Size: Makes 20 chocotejas

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup pecans
  • 1 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup pisco or rum
  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips

Directions:

  1. In a food processor, pulse the pecans until finely ground.
  2. In a bowl, mix the ground pecans, sweetened condensed milk, powdered sugar, cocoa powder, vanilla extract, and pisco until well combined.
  3. Take small portions of the mixture and shape them into small round balls. Place them on a lined baking sheet.
  4. In a heatproof bowl, melt the dark chocolate chips in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between until smooth.
  5. Dip each pecan ball into the melted chocolate, coating it completely. Place back on the baking sheet.
  6. Allow the chocolate to set at room temperature or in the refrigerator for faster results.
