Spicy Lamb Biryani is a classic Indian dish with tender lamb meat and fragrant spices. This aromatic one-pot meal is perfect for celebrations or special occasions.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb lamb meat, cubed
  • 2 cups basmati rice, soaked
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 3 tomatoes, chopped
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt
  • 2 tbsp biryani masala
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 4 cloves
  • 2 cardamom pods
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh mint leaves
  • 4 cups water
  • Salt to taste
  • Ghee or vegetable oil for cooking

Directions:

  1. In a large pot, heat ghee or oil over medium heat. Add cumin seeds, cloves, cardamom pods, and cinnamon stick. Sauté until fragrant.
  2. Add sliced onions and cook until golden brown.
  3. Add lamb cubes and cook until browned on all sides.
  4. Stir in biryani masala, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
  5. Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they soften.
  6. Mix in yogurt, cilantro, and mint leaves. Cook for another 5 minutes.
  7. Add soaked rice and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes or until the rice and lamb are fully cooked.
  8. Fluff with a fork and serve hot garnished with additional cilantro and mint leaves.
