Sugar Cookie Bats with Black Frosting

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
  • Black food coloring
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, beat 3/4 cup butter and granulated sugar until creamy.
  4. Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract to the creamed mixture and beat until combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
  6. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness.
  7. Use a bat-shaped cookie cutter to cut out shapes and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden. Let cool on a wire rack.
  9. For the frosting, beat 1/4 cup butter until smooth, then slowly add powdered sugar and milk.
  10. Add black food coloring to the frosting and mix until desired color is achieved.
  11. Spread or pipe the black frosting onto cooled cookies.
