Delicious, traditional hamantaschen filled with sweet fruit preserves, perfect for Purim celebrations.

Traditional Hamantaschen

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup fruit preserves (apricot, raspberry, or poppy seed)

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the egg, vanilla extract, and salt, mixing until well combined.
  4. Gradually add the flour to the mixture, stirring until a dough forms.
  5. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  6. On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/8 inch thick.
  7. Cut out circles using a cookie cutter or a glass, about 3 inches in diameter.
  8. Place a teaspoon of fruit preserves in the center of each circle.
  9. Fold the edges of the circle towards the center to form a triangle, pinching to seal.
  10. Place the hamantaschen on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  11. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until lightly golden.
  12. Allow to cool on a wire rack before serving.
